Fernanda Piamonti was born on November 2nd, 1973, in the city of La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since her early childhood she was interested in handiwork following the tradition of the women in her family: dressmakers, seamstresses, weavers, embroiderers and ironers. Her father made tents and that also contributed to her great skill to adapt, improvise and set up her itinerant outdoor studio in unthinkable places such as The Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia, Empordá at the Mediterranean Sea in Spain, or in an industrial warehouse, her current studio in her hometown in Argentina. Her parents decided to enhance her artistic spirit, enrolling her in an Elementary Art School when she was nine years old and then in a Middle and High School where she graduated as an Art Teacher. She later obtained her Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts at Universidad Nacional de La Plata with a concentration in Sculpture and Drawing. She also completed graduate courses on Drawing and Object Art at Escuela Ernesto de la Cárcova  in Buenos Aires City. During those years, she decided to travel and spent a season in Spain, France and Italy, visiting Art Museums and Cultural Centers to develop her techniques and get nourished by other cultures. Between 2007-2017 she applied for scholarships in Europe and the USA and obtained residencies in Spain (Albacete in 2007 and Sant Martí d'Empúries in 2008), in France (París, Cité International des Arts in 2014 and in 2016), in Germany (Cologne in 2012 and 2013) and in the USA (North Carolina in 2008, 2010 and 2017). She has always had a great interest in the materiality of her work, so she is always exploring non-traditional resources and develops unusual techniques blending different specialities like engraving, photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, costume design and scenography. As a result of this, she creates pieces of work that look like Art Informel-Abstract Expressionism through endless mixed resources. Periodically, she produces performances like “Femenino 2000” (about the place of women and her affectivity), “Cantora Nocturna” (poetic musical based on the texts by Alejandra Pizarnik “Las mías” and “Papito”, tribute to her ancestors) and “Gaspard de la Nuit” by Aloysius Beltrand and Mauricia Ravel (about her childhood fears). She also designs and makes the costume for the theater play “Vitriol”, an adaptation from Dante Alighieri’s purgatory. She has often collaborated with the image of the “Borges-Francia Literature Conferences” At present, she develops the following projects: “Bottomless” with recycled photographic paper, “Argéntica” with photographic chemicals, “Piedra y Medusa” with construction materials taken to drawing-painting preciousness.
